For over a year I have been the proud owner of a Kenwood L-07D, an absolute top-class turntable from days gone by. This turntable impresses with its very neutral sound and outstanding transient reproduction. The standard L-07J tonearm, which is supplied with every L-07D turntable, completes this sonic masterpiece and ensures unadulterated music reproduction.
Despite the excellent performance of the L-07J, I was always curious to experience the sonic attitude of my 9-10 inch tonearms such as the Schick, SME 3009R or Fidelity Research FR-64fx on the Kenwood deck. Fortunately, the L-07D offers the possibility of installing a second tonearm. However, the original Kenwood bases required for this are extremely rare and difficult to find.
In my passion for the perfect sound experience, I designed my own tonearm base based on the original. This base is made of high-quality 6061 aluminum and powder-coated black. It offers high stability and minimizes unwanted vibrations, which contributes to precise and clear music reproduction. The tonearm base can also be moved using elongated holes, just like the original.
This base can accommodate tonearms with SME connection up to 10 inches as well as tonearms from Fidelity Research with a screw connection of 28 mm. With the help of an adapter plate from SME to "hole" it is also easy to mount tonearms such as Schick, Kuzma and others. The holes for the screw connection of SME are M2.5.
With this adjustment, I have significantly increased the flexibility and versatility of the Kenwood L-07D. Now everyone can enjoy and compare the specific sound characteristics of any tonearm, allowing an even wider range of sounds to be experienced on the Kenwood L-07D.
