A collection of photos introducing 34 jazz kissa across Japan taken between 2022 and 2023. "Memories of Jazz Kissa in 2022-2023," including stores that have already closed. A photo book that is a sequel to "Jazz Kissa 2014" Volume 1 and Volume 2, which introduced a total of 136 jazz kissa in eastern Japan.

This book is a photo book, so there are no text articles. The table of contents and store address are given in Japanese and English.

From the “Afterword” of this book

So far, we had published three photo books, “JAZZ KISSA 2014” Vol.1 & Vol.2, and “JAZZ KISSA 2015-2019.” No photo collection exclusively themed on Jazz Kissa had ever been published in Japan, and this whole project was truly an attempt to create a “world first,” so I never expected the response to such an offbeat book series to be so great. “JAZZ KISSA 2022-2023” will be the fourth work, and the reason there is no installation called ‘JAZZ KISSA 2020-2021’ is because I was unable to capture even a single Jazz Kissa during the COVID-19 pandemic. During these two years, I did not enter a regular cafe or restaurant even once. This was because I was afraid of getting infected myself or spreading the infection to my family or to elderly shopkeepers. But in 2024, hardly anyone is worried anymore. COVID-19 hasn't been eradicated yet, and the world hasn't returned to normal, but it at least seems like I can go around covering Jazz Kissa like I did back in 2019 and before. The COVID-19 pandemic has severely damaged restaurants around the world, and many have closed their doors, but few Jazz Kissa in Japan have actually closed because of the pandemic. A much bigger problem in Japan is the aging owners and the outdated buildings. Fortunately, however, the number of new Jazz Kissa being started by the younger generation is increasing, and the number of Jazz Kissa regulars who continue to run them as volunteers is also increasing, and about a third of the 34 cafes featured in this book are run by new owners who have sprung up in recent years.

Previously each location took up two pages, but this time we decided to halve the number of locations listed and use four pages for each location instead. This has made the book perhaps even more meaningful and engaging than the previous three.
