Dereneville DPS-12 / DPS-24 – Analog Linear Power Supply

Most devices that need 12 or 24 volts come with a wall wart power supply. That works. But it's a switched-mode power supply, and switched-mode power supplies operate at clock frequencies in the double to triple-digit kilohertz range — with all the interference spectrum that brings to the DC voltage and via the mains line.

The DPS takes the other approach: transformer, rectification, linear regulation. No clock, no switching noise, one output, one voltage, done.

Two versions:

• DPS-12 — 12 V, for Dereneville DTT-03 and DTT-05 tangential tonearms
• DPS-24 — 24 V, for drive units such as Dereneville DAE-01-SP and DAE-01-CLe etc.

Both are housed in the same aluminum casing (92 × 134 × 254 mm), input side switchable between 220 V and 110 V, no display, no controls. A power supply doesn't need to display anything — it should deliver power and otherwise keep quiet.

By the way, if you have a DMS-5001 or a DNP-2021, you don't need the DPS: the same power supply is already built in internally.

Who this is for: Owners of a DAE-01 or DTT who are still using the included wall wart power supply. This is the classic upgrade path — and frankly, the only reason to buy a separate power supply.

What we don't claim: There are no published measurement values for ripple or interference spectrum that prove an audible difference to the wall wart power supply. The argument for the DPS is constructive, not metrologically documented. If you want to try it out: it's audible in our studio in Volmarstein, directly on the A1.
